This customer, located in Belrose on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, wanted to separate their formal living area from the kitchen and sunroom. The home had a farmhouse-style decor and a sliding glass panelled barn door was the perfect solution.
Specifically for this project, the customer bought a second hand cedar, glass paneled door from the Kimbriki tip Buy Back Centre for $30.00.
Unable to get the door home, Peter picked it up for the customer in his trailer.
Aside from the aesthetic appeal of the barn door in this home, it offered space saving benefits over a traditional, hinged door.
Peter purchased the barn door track from Bunnings which he attached it to the recycled door (after some minor carpentry changes to make it fit). This was then attached above the door frame to a supporting beam.
Now the customer can close off the formal lounge area from the rest of the house, helping to keep rooms heated and cooled, whilst reducing noise transmission throughout the home.
The benefits of sliding barn door installation
Sliding barn doors have become increasingly popular throughout homes on the Northern Beaches. With a unique blend of style and functionality, sliding bar doors can enhance the look and feel of any room, offering many benefits:
- Space-saving design – Unlike hinged swing doors that require clear floor space to open, sliding barn doors move along a track parallel to the wall. This makes them an ideal solution for small spaces or rooms where maximising floor space is essential.
- A choice of style options – Sliding barn doors are incredibly versatile and can complement a variety of interior design styles, from rustic farmhouse to modern industrial. They are available in a wide range of materials, including wood, metal, glass, and composite materials. You can also choose from various finishes, colors, and hardware styles to match your decor.
- Accessibility and mobility – Sliding barn doors can be more practical to open and close for individuals with mobility issues. The smooth sliding mechanism requires less effort and can be more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
- Open plan living – By eliminating the need for a door swing, sliding barn doors can improve the flow of traffic in a room. This is particularly beneficial in high-traffic areas like kitchens, living rooms, and hallways. The unobstructed movement through these spaces can make your home feel more open and spacious.
- Aesthetics – Sliding barn doors add a unique and eye-catching element to your home’s interior. They can serve as a focal point in a room, adding character and charm. Whether you opt for a rustic reclaimed wood door or a sleek, modern glass door, sliding barn doors can elevate the overall aesthetic of your space.
- Multi-functional – Sliding barn doors are incredibly versatile and can be used in various applications throughout the home including room dividers, on closets and pantries, ensuite bathrooms, study nooks and much more.
- Customisable – Sliding barn doors can be customised in respect to size, style, colour and finish. Custom options allow homeowners to create a door that fits perfectly with your home’s design and functional requirements.
- Noise reduction – Sliding barn doors can also help with noise reduction between rooms. When closed, they provide a solid barrier that can dampen sound, making them a good choice for home offices, bedrooms, and media rooms where noise control is important.
