Timber deck repair on the Northern Beaches.
Peter recently repaired a bouncy, unstable timber deck for a Northern Beaches homeowner.
Over time, the homeowners noticed that their deck was bouncing considerably when they walked across certain sections. This is a clear sign that something structural wasn’t quite right underneath.
Once onsite, Peter found the issue – a rusted steel support post that had corroded to the point it was no longer doing its job.
Safely replacing the old steel post.
The rusted, steel post had weakened significantly, compromising the integrity of the deck. Rather than removing it immediately and risking collapse or further movement, Peter installed the new support post first.
For both structural integrity and a long term solution, Peter installed a new treated pine timber post. This is ideal for ideal use and strong enough to carry the weight of the deck above, including foot traffic.
With the new H-4 treated timber pine post in place, Peter could safely remove the old steel post without affecting the structure. Securing the timber post in a metal stirrup and concreting it into the ground. By concreting and elevating the timber off the ground, this protects the timber post from moisture and pests.
With the post in place, Peter applied multiple coats of weather-resistant outdoor paint to add extra protection.
This careful process not only fixed the immediate issue but also ensured the deck would remain stable, safe, and weather-resistant for years to come.
