Repair of water damaged ceiling due to an ongoing roof leak on the Northern Beaches.
This customer at Manly Vale, contacted Peter to repair a water damaged ceiling in their living room following a roof leak.
The roof leak had been repaired and now the water stained ceiling needed to be fixed.
Running horizontally across the ceiling was a structural steel I-beam. This had been enclosed with a plywood box to create a cleaner finish. The water leak had caused sections of the plywood to swell and buckle.
The buckled plywood looked unsightly and, in an attempt to improve the appearance, the homeowner had removed some of the damaged material and repainted the affected areas.
These repairs were not an adequate long-term solution and the remained visible and the surface was still uneven.
They called handyman Peter for a solution.

Fixing the water damaged ceiling.
After assessing the damage, Peter filled the areas where the plywood facing had been removed, rebuilding the surface to create a smooth, even finish.
Once the filler had cured, the repaired sections were sanded flush so they blended seamlessly with the surrounds.
The water leak had also left staining on the cornices between the ceiling and the boxed beam. Although the homeowner had tried repainting these areas, the stains continued to bleed through the paint.
To prevent this, Peter applied a specialised stain-blocking primer designed to seal water stains and stop them from reappearing through the topcoat.
With the repairs completed and the surfaces restored, the homeowner chose to do the final painting themselves after the filler had fully dried, saving Peter from having to make a return visit.
